Update: This road is completely paved from Prineville to Rt 20.

An enjoyable ride from Bend connecting from Alfalfa are or Rt 20 and heading North.

Nice 10:30am ride to Prineville for a quality genuine burger at shake at Tastee Treat.

Then head back to Bend or onward to Mitchell and John Day / Prairie / Baker City / Halfway and Hells Canyon

This Crooked River Loop from Bend is one of my favorites

Heading south along Hwy-27 from Prineville OR, the paved segment of this route ends abruptly nearly 8 miles after crossing the Prineville Reservoir dam and 5 miles after the intersection with SE Reservoir Road, which is the only paved exit after riding through the Crooked River Canyon. The map graphic for this route incorrectly implies that Hwy-27 is paved through to US-20. On 6/29/2014 I continued on the unpaved section for nearly a mile of the approximately 20 miles to US-20 before turning around due to the amount of loose gravel. The ride along the Crooked River is certainly scenic and very twisty in places.
